Tradition and innovation: the recipe for ceramic excellence

We are very pleased to have contributed to the creation of a ceramic plant for a luxury brand globally recognized for the production of large-sized washbasins and freestanding baths.

The brand, headquartered in the United Kingdom, is part of a program aimed at promoting British excellence worldwide.

Progetti’s support for this greenfield facility spanned several areas

  • Assistance in modifying the slip and glaze to suit the new production technology.
  • Execution of the pre-project, layout and executive design.
  • Design and supply of factory services (electricity, industrial and washing water, compressed air, thermal energy);
  • Design and supply of slip preparation equipment, with automation of the processing cycle through dedicated software.
  • Design and supply of the glazing systems.
  • Design and construction of the wash water treatment plant.
  • Closed-loop re-use of treated water in a closed circuit in order to reduce the consumption required for the proper maintenance and operation of the various plants.
  • Design and supply of the dust extraction system, not only to comply with legal standards, but also to improve the healthiness of the working environment.
  • Assistance in the installation and commissioning of the plants.

Project focus: adapting the ceramic recipe

Our team of sanitaryware experts helped the customer to adapt the traditional ceramic slip for the new machines to be installed in the factory. The approach was that of laboratory tests, which involve the use of several instrumental investigations for the collection of data until the desired goal was achieved.

Particular attention was also given to the quality of the glaze, with the design and installation of an innovative high-capacity de-ironization system using neodymium magnets. This significantly improved the quality of the final fired glaze and reduced waste caused by iron stains.

“Greenfield plants like this one“ explains Stefano Striolo, director of Progetti Ceramic Innovation division “require a wide range of cross-disciplinary skills, from chemical to electrical and hydraulic engineering. In the design, we have taken into account various aspects: aesthetics were never sacrificed or overshadowed by functionality, the choice of colors was made in compliance with regulations as well as the harmony of the environment, noise pollution was reduced through appropriate measures, and the comfort of the staff was promoted by creating direct and well-marked connections between the different production areas. The ultimate goal was to foster a strong sense of participation and involvement in the workers, so that they feel like an integral part of the company’s success and are motivated to pursue the quality that should inspire every production activity.”
